The real earthquake danger in Southern California The "big one" is 150 years overdue.
The projections made in this video are based on an intensive interdisciplinary scientific study led by the USGS. If you want to see another video which includes interviews of some of the lead scientists involved in the project, click here.
We do support the recommendations made in this video. Though, our obvious objection is that they never mention a "grab 'n' go" or portable emergency kit! Please follow our logic. The "big one" could happen at any time of day. You could be anywhere. Your kids could be anywhere. If you keep a kit in your car, you will have the means to take care of yourself, wherever you are. Your home may be destroyed, or you simply can't get to it because of untold destruction, and whatever you have on your person or in your car will become your temporary home. Emergency services will be overwhelmed and you will have to take care of yourself for an indefinite period. Finally, if there is no water or electricity coming into the city for weeks, and fires are raging, you will probably want to evacuate. That is what our kits are about! Please, don't sweep this under the rug. This will happen one day, and according to the study, it is not the worst-case scenario. Please, be prepared.
